Why am I running?
For nearly 12 years, I have owned and managed the Mathnasium learning center in the Eastlake area of Chula Vista. With the help of my fantastic staff, over 1,500 children have improved their math skills and become better students. Many of those students came to us struggling with math, but with proper instruction, support, and encouragement, they not only improved but came to enjoy and even love math. However, over the past several years, I have seen a decline in the level of understanding basic math concepts at nearly all grade levels. This is something we must turn around immediately.
The residents of a community in many ways are like members a large family. Although we have different backgrounds and goals in life, we all want the best possible education for our children. The parents that bring their children to me for help know me to be caring and supportive; and that I always put the best interests of their children first. Many parents over the years have encouraged me to run for public office. It is time now for me to do so.
Being a community-based small-business owner, I know how important it is to be responsive to my customers. As a board member of the Chula Vista Elementary School District, I pledge to listen to you and your needs and values, and to work towards the betterment of our district for you and the current and future children of our city. To do that, I need your help. Please consider a donation towards our campaign, and most of all please vote for me on November 3.
